Recipes are a useful start in designing classic decor – you can easily replicate popular designs without having to rethink sizing each time.

However, they can stifle creativity…many times I’ve been asked “how big is that inflated to?” and to be honest, it really doesn’t matter, as long as your scaling and proportion are correct, you can upscale and downscale pretty much any design to suit. So don’t get hung up on the sizings in the recipes, just realise that if you want to make something bigger, you need to adjust all the sizes in proportion so that it all balances and looks visually pleasing.

I’d encourage you to keep a recipe book though – certain designs are replicated time and again and it’s easy when you have a starting point from the previous time….
